APPROVAL AND GAZETTING OF THE TANZANIA MEDICINES AND MEDICAL DEVICES AUTHORITY (SCHEDULING OF MEDICINES) REGULATIONS, 2026 (GN. NO. 150)

1. The Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) wishes to inform its esteemed customers and stakeholders that the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) (Scheduling of Medicines) Regulations, 2026 have been approved by the Hon. Minister for Health and officially published under the Government Notice (GN) No. 150 on 19th June 2026.
2. Made under section 122 (W) of the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Act, Cap 219 R.E. 2023, these Regulations set forth revised categories of human and veterinary medicines.
3. The new categories form the basis of allowing medicinal products to be stocked and dispensed from applicable health facilities to include hospitals, private pharmacies and accredited drug dispensing outlets (ADDOs).
4. All prescribers, pharmacists, pharmaceutical technicians, ADDO dispensers and those dealing with controlled drugs are urged to familiarize with these Regulations to ensure full compliance to requirements.
5. The new Regulations replaces the 2015 Regulations with GN. No. 63 and the same can be accessed on the TMDA website at tmda.go.tz/publications/51.
