Ms. Sophia is the Zonal Manager, TMDA Eastern Zone office since July 2025. In this role, she is responsible for managing and coordinating implementation of medicines, medical devices and diagnostics regulatory activities and liaise on between TMDA and Local Government Authorities across three regions namely Dar es Salaam, Pwani and Tanga. Before that, she was Zonal Manager, TMDA Lake Zone offices overseeing regulatory activities within six regions (Mwanza, Mara, Simiyu, Geita, Shinyanga and Geita) then Eastern Lake Zone office (Mwanza, Mara and Simiyu regions) since March 2019 to June, 2025.

Technically, she had notable expertise on assessment of dossiers of medicines, vaccines, medical devices and diagnostics submitted by manufacturers for marketing authorization, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) inspection of pharmaceuticals, biological and medical device manufacturers, assessment of clinical trial protocols and inspection and monitoring the conduct of clinical trials as per Good Clinical Practices (GCP), safety and quality monitoring of medicines and vaccines (pharmacovigilance and post marketing surveillance) and auditing of quality systems in organizations as per ISO standards.

Ms. Sophia has been engaged and contributed in various forums for development of national and regional regulatory guidelines, tools and programme/projects protocols. She also attended a number meetings, workshop and seminars related to regulation of medical products. Currently, She served as Technical expert on the African Union Smart Safety Surveillance (AU-3S) Continental Safety Platform Working Group, GCP consultant for Rwanda FDA (2023), quality and clinical assessor consultant for Botswana Medicine Authority, WHO prequalified expert in the joint pilot WHO/EAC assessment to facilitate harmonization and sharing of expert (March to November 2010) and served as WHO temporary adviser in the WHO Benchmarking workshop to assist The Ethiopian Food, Medicines and Healthcare Administration and Control Authority (EFMHACA) in the finalization of self-benchmarking of all regulatory functions up to maturity level (ML) (March, 2019) and East Africa Community (EAC) Pharmacovigilance and Post Marketing Surveillance Expert Technical Working Group (2007-2011).

In addition, Ms. Sophia served as bord member of Sekou Ture Regional Rereferral Hospital, Mwanza, member of Mwanza Region Business Council and chairman of the TMDA PMS Task Force.
