HUMAN MEDICINES REGISTRATION TECHNICAL COMMITTEES

The Human Medicines Registration Technical Committee (HMRTC) has been established under Section 13 of the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Act Cap 219 in order to provide independent technical advice to TMDA’s Director General on matters related to quality, safety and efficacy of medicines applied for registration in Tanzania and which are under consideration for approval or rejection following evaluation/assessment conducted by TMDA technical staff/assessors.

Members of HMRTC provide professional advice to promote safety and protect public health by ensuring that medicine recommended for marketing authorization in Tanzania are of acceptable quality, safety and efficacy. In this respect, their recommendations are scientific and evidence based.

Members of the Human Medicines Registration Technical Committee (HMRTC) are expected to be prudent, transparent, independent and faithful and committed to their professional ethics while discussing all matters pertaining to registration of human medicinal products.

Composition of Committee

The HMRTC is composed of experts with knowledge and experience in at least the following fields:-

  1. Internal medicine
  2. Pharmaceutics/Industrial Pharmacy
  3. Clinical Pharmacology
  4. Biostatistics
  5. Microbiology/Virology
  6. Toxicology
  7. Drug analysis
  8. Clinical Pharmacy/Pharmacy Practice
  9. Any other field as may be deemed necessary.

The HMRTC meets once quarterly and the current members are as listed in the table below: -

The Committee serves for three (3) years and the tenure of the current Committee will come to an end on 30th June, 2028.

VETERINARY MEDICINES REGISTRATION TECHNICAL COMMITTEE

The Veterinary Medicines Registration Technical Committee (VMRTC) has been established under Section 13 of the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Act Cap 219 in order to provide independent technical advice to TMDA’s Director General on matters related to quality, safety and efficacy of veterinary medicines applied for registration in Tanzania and which are under consideration for approval or rejection following evaluation/assessment conducted by TMDA technical staff/assessors.

Members of VMRTC provide professional advice to promote safety and protect public health by ensuring that medicine recommended for marketing authorization in Tanzania are of acceptable quality, safety and efficacy. In this respect, their recommendations are scientific and evidence based.

The VMRTC is composed of experts with knowledge and experience in at least the following fields:-

  1. Public Health
  2. Clinical Veterinary Practices
  3. Microbiology/Virology
  4. Pharmacology and Toxicology
  5. Drug analysis
  6. Any other field as may be deemed necessary
