Dr. Aderald Mtenga (Ph.D)

Manager, Microbiology Analysis Laboratory

Dr. Adelard B. Mtenga is Microbiology Section Manager and Research coordinator for the Institution, he is a pharmacist specialized in pharmaceutical biotechnology with over 25 years of experience. He participated in number of technical committees at national and international levels including; Ministry of Health Tanzania Research Committee, UNIDO project on Pharmaceutical Market Information for EAC countries, Joint FAO and IAEA Technical advisory committee. External reviewer to Bill and Melinda Gate foundation 2003-2008. Recently appointed as Board Director to Tanzania Pharmaceutical Industries (TPI).

Also, he is a honorary lecturer in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) Dar Es Salaam-Tanzania and visiting lecturer in Biotechnology at the University of Rwanda (UR) – Kigali Rwanda. He published peer reviewed papers in microbial detection, microbial resistance, Pharmaceutical Science, Irradiation Technology and antibody production.

He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree (B. Pharm) from Dr. M.G.R Medical University Chennai-India, also hold Masters of Science (MSc) Degree in Medical Microbiology from University of London - London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM)- UK and a Doctorate Degree (Ph.D) in Biotechnology from Gyeongsang National University-South Korea.

The Microbiology Analysis Laboratory is WHO-prequalified in pharmaceutical testing and ensures that pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and other health-related products are free from harmful microorganisms and meet strict microbiological quality standards.

What We Test

Our work covers a broad range of products, including;

  • Sterile products such as injectables and infusions
  • Non-sterile pharmaceutical preparations
  • Medical devices such as blood bags, gloves, surgical blades, syringes, sutures, face masks, and sanitary towels
  • Any other non regulated product

Our Focus

We conduct critical microbiological evaluations to confirm product safety and compliance with national and international standards. These include assessing sterility, detecting microbial contamination, evaluating antimicrobial effectiveness, and verifying the cleanliness and integrity of products.

The laboratory is equipped with advanced systems to ensure accurate and reliable results, including:

  • Controlled clean-room environments with HVAC systems
  • Sterile rooms for aseptic testing
  • Sterility testing systems (Steritest)
  • Biosafety cabinets and laminar airflow cabinets
  • Incubators, autoclaves, and PCR systems for molecular detection
