PAYMENT OF ANNUAL RETENTION FEES FOR THE YEAR 2027

1. The Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) wishes to remind its esteemed stakeholders that, pursuant to Section 55 (b) of the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Act, Cap 219, the retention of products in the Register of registered products is upon payment of a prescribed fee.
2. A proforma invoice of all registered medicinal products will be generated and communicated to all Marketing Authorization Holders (MAHs) by October 2026 through the respective trader portal accounts. The MAHs will be required to scrutinize the issued proforma invoices and submit a list of products they wish to continue marketing in Tanzania to the Authority by 1st November 2026.
3. The Retention Fee must be paid without penalty by 31st January 2027 and payments made from 1st February to 31st March 2027 will attract a penalty, as prescribed in the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices (Fees and Charges) Regulations, 2021.
4. The registration of all non-declared/listed medicinal products, as well as declared products with outstanding retention fees, will be suspended by 1st of April 2027. Any medicinal product registration that remains suspended for more than 12 months from the date of suspension shall be automatically revoked or cancelled from the Register.
5. Please note that importation permits for non-declared products, and for any declared products with pending retention fees, will not be issued effective by 1st of April 2027.
6. MAHs are therefore advised to adhere to the prescribed procedure and timelines to avoid any inconveniences that may result from failure to pay retention fees on time.
