FALSIFIED VETERINARY VACCINE NAMELY "TEMEVAC NDV STRAIN 1-2" DETECTED ON THE MARKET

  1. The Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) would like to inform the public that, in collaboration with the Tanzania Veterinary Laboratory Agency (TVLA), it has identified the presence of a falsified veterinary vaccine, namely Temevac NDV Strain 1-2, circulating on the market.
  2. Investigations have depicted that this falsified vaccine was not manufactured by TVLA and is being distributed by unscrupulous traders using forged labels of the genuine Temevac NDV Strain I-2 vaccine.
  3. The falsified vaccine has the following features as compared to the genuine vaccine: -
    1. Outer Logo: The genuine vaccine logo contains an image of a microscope, whereas the falsified vaccine logo contains an image of a chicken.
    2. Foil/Shine: The left side of the genuine vaccine label features an aluminium foil sheen, while the falsified vaccine label does not.
    3. Batch details: The genuine vaccine label contains all critical details, including the manufacturing date, expiration date, and batch number, whereas the falsified vaccine label lacks a batch number.

  6. All dealers of veterinary medicines (wholesalers and retailers) as well as veterinary clinic owners are advised to scrutinize vaccine labels at their disposal. If this falsified vaccine is detected, dealers are directed to stop its use to avoid harm to livestock. Thereafter, reports should be sent promptly to TMDA offices located in Dodoma, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Arusha, Mbeya, Songea, Tabora, and Geita, or via email at info@tmda.go.tz, or toll-free at 0800110084.
  7. Additionally, TMDA calls upon the public to continue reporting individuals or companies involved in the clandestine distribution of falsified, substandard, unregistered, or unfit therapeutic products, including expired ones.
  8. TMDA will continue to execute its core obligation of safeguarding the public and animal health by ensuring all medicines circulating on the market in the country meet the required standards of quality, safety, and efficacy.
