PUBLIC NOTICE
26th October, 2026
PAYMENT OF ANNUAL RETENTION FEES FOR THE YEAR 2027
- Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) reminds all stakeholders that pursuant to Section 55(b) of the TMDA Act (Cap 219), annual product retention fees must be paid to maintain active registration status. The payment window runs from 1st December to 31st March for each calendar year.
- To initiate the cycle, TMDA issued proforma invoices listing all registered products (medicines, medical devices, and IVDs) to all Marketing Authorization Holders (MAHs) via their respective Trader Portal accounts in October 2026.
- MAHs were requested to review these invoices and communicate with TMDA on the products they intend to market so that a batch invoice bearing a control number can be prepared. Effective from 1st December 2026, the Tanzania Electronic Single Window System (TANESW) will require retention fees to be settled before processing import permit applications.
- All MAHs are required to pay the retention fee for the year 2027 by 31st January 2027 without a penalty. Payments made between 1st February and 31st March 2027 will attract a late penalty as prescribed in the TMDA (Fees and Charges) Regulations, 2021
- Registration of products will be suspended on 1st April 2027 for any undeclared products or declared products with unpaid retention fees. Please kindly note that any product registration that remains suspended for more than 12 consecutive months will be automatically revoked and removed from the Register.
- MAHs are strongly advised to adhere strictly to these procedures and timelines to prevent any disruption to product importation or cancellation of registration status.
